COLUMBIA, SC - Jose Medina was one of the bright spots of Columbia's 7-3 loss on Friday. The 22-year-old notched two hits, an RBI and two runs scored in the series opener against Hagerstown. The impressive showing is the latest in a 10-game stretch in which Medina has hit to a tune of .361 with an 1.188 OPS. Both of those numbers lead the Fireflies during that time frame.

Columbia (15-20, 39-62) falls five games back of first place with the loss. A pair of errors in the field gifted Hagerstown (15-19, 45-59) three unearned runs during the affair. The defensive miscues as well as a five-RBI night from Drew Mendoza gave the Suns the upper hand , and ultimately the win.

Medina was not the only Firefly to record multiple hits on Friday. Carlos Sanchez accomplished the same feat with a pair of singles on the night. Brian Sharp drove in a run and tallied a base hit of his own. Mark Vientos added a double and a run scored to the offensive efforts.

Daison Acosta (L, 1-2) was credited with the loss for Columbia. The righty allowed six hits in 3.2 innings. Six runs scored during Acosta's time on the mound, but only half of those runs were earned. Jake Simon delivered a stellar performance out of the bullpen. The Texan southpaw struck out five of the eight men he faced in his relief outing.

The only thing that one-upped Simon's performance was the showing by Hagerstown's relievers. Alex Troop (H, 1) and Gabe Klobosits allowed just one hit over the final four innings. The duo prevented Columbia from mounting a comeback, and secured the victory for Suns starter Joan Adon (9-3).

The Fireflies continue their series against Hagerstown on Saturday, and will be welcoming a special guest to Segra Park. Santa Claus will be visiting the stadium to help the team celebrate Christmas in July. Special edition Christmas-themed jerseys will be worn by the players and auctioned off to benefit the Salvation Army.

First pitch is set for 6:05 ET with coverage beginning at 5:45 at FirefliesLiveStream.com and MiLB.TV.
