
Inland Empire Splits Six-Game Set with Stockton as Sixers Take Finale 6-5

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino saved a split of a six-game set versus the Stockton Ports with a 6-5 win on Sunday. Inland Empire (22-25) received a quartet of multi-hit games but the decisive blow was Braxton Martinez' three-run double in the sixth that gave the 66ers a 6-2 advantage.
Stockton (20-28) took a 1-0 lead in the second when Danny Bautista doubled and eventually scored on José Rivas' sac fly. The Ports made it 2-0 in the top of the fourth on Lawrence Butler's towering homer to right off Sixers' southpaw Adam Seminaris. The dinger was Butler's eighth but Seminaris was solid allowing two runs on five hits with no walks and six K's in a no-decision. Inland Empire was held down by Kumar Nambiar of the Ports for three frames but touched him for two runs in the bottom of the fourth; with one out Jose Guzman singled and Caleb Scires was hit with a pitch. Gustavo Campero followed with a RBI single and two batters later the Sixers tied the game on Julio De La Cruz' RBI infield hit. The 66ers took the lead in the sixth against when Jose Reyes legged out an infield single, De La Cruz walked and Elijah Greene walked with one out against reliever Dallas Woolfolk (0-2). Jeremy Arocho then lifted a fly ball to shallow center that Buelvas dropped allowing Reyes to score the go-ahead run. After a strikeout, Martinez smoked his bases-clearing double to left-center pushing the lead to 6-2. After a scoreless first inning in the sixth, IE righty Coleman Crow (1-0) ran into trouble in the seventh by walking and hitting the eight and nine batters respectively to open the frame. After a strikeout, TJ Schofield-Sam lifted a three-run homer to right to cut the lead to 6-5. Crow retired the next five batters he faced in his professional debut fanning five batters in three innings. Justin Courtney allowed a lead-off flare single in the ninth but stranded the run to earn his second save of the year. Arocho, De La Cruz, Greene and Martinez all had two-hit games.
