SPOKANE, Wash. - A three-run Ruben Sierra home run capped a four run third inning rally, as the Spokane Indians defeated the Boise Hawks, 8-2, before 5,162 fans at Avista Stadium.

Tied at 2-2, Brett Nicholas broke the tie with an RBI single, scoring Trever Adams, who rocketed a one-outtriple. Following a Guillermo Pimentel single, Sierra clubbed the drive over the centerfield wall, pushing the margin to 6-2. Nicholas capped the scoring in the fourth with a two-run double.

Nick Martinez went five innings to log his first win, with the only blemish a Ryan Cuneo two-run double in the third that tied the score. The loss for the Hawks was their eighth-straight road defeat.

Nicholas went 3-for-4 with three RBI, with Adams and Sierra each adding two hits for the Indians, while Zeke DeVoss had two of the Hawks four hits. Kyler Burke was stellar in relief for Boise, tossing three and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief, fanning six.

Game 2 of the series is tomorrow night, with Yao-Lin Wang meeting Kevin Matthews at 7:35 p.m. (MDT)
