August 19, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release
Spokane, WA
-After a long and difficult road trip through Salem-Keizer and Yakima, the Indians were thrilled to return to the friendly confines of Avista Stadium. Spokane took full advantage of their home crowd, and the hapless Hawks' pitching staff, as the Indians cruised to a 8-2 victory over Boise in front of a robust crowd of 5,162 fans for Indians Baseball Card Giveaway presented by U.S. Linen and KISS 98.1 FM.
Centerfielder Ruben Sierra, who drove in four runs in the Indians win over Yakima on Wednesday night, continued his hot hitting with a three-run home run to dead-centerfield in the fourth that staked starter Nick Martinez (1-2) to a 6-2 lead.
The right-handed Martinez rebounded from a tough outing against Salem-Keizer, holding the Hawks to just two runs in five innings while striking out six. Richard Alvarez followed Martinez with two scoreless frames and Phil Klein and Juan Grullon kept Boise off the scoreboard in the eighth and ninth innings.
Designated hitter Brett Nicholas finished 3-4 with three RBI's and first baseman Trever Adams collected two hits, including a double and a triple.
The game was followed by a Supercuts Post-Game Circle the Bases Promotion where hundreds of delighted children rounded the bases with OTTO the Mascot and Recycleman.
Tomorrow is the second game of a three game series against Boise and is Yoke's $1 Family Feast Night presented by Yoke's Fresh Market and 92.9 ZZU. Bring your whole family out to the ballpark and enjoy hotdogs, Pepsi products, and ice cream sandwiches for just $1 a piece!
