Boise Hawks News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - Yefry Castillo gapped a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting the Spokane Indians to a key 3-2 victory over the Boise Hawks, before a sellout crowd of 6,831 fans at Avista Stadium.
After the Hawks tied the score in the top of the ninth on a mammoth pinch hit homer by Ryan Cuneo off Indians closer Matt West, Spokane went to work in the bottom of the frame. Hector Mayora walked Edwin Garcia and Trever Adams to start the inning and after a flyball out, Castillo hit a 1-0 fastball off the wall in left to score pinch-runner Hirotoshi Onaki to send Boise to their ninth-straight road defeat.
Spokane took an early 1-0 lead in the second on a Zach Cone sacrifice fly, but the Hawks tied it in the fifth, as Oliver Zapata led off with a triple and scored on a Dustin Harrington RBI base hit. The Indians would retake the lead in the bottom of the inning, as Hanser Alberto singled home Guillermo Pimentel.
Castillo went 2-for-4 in the win for Spokane, who improves to 5-0 this season against Boise at home, while Harrington went 2-for-5 in the loss for the Hawks, who have dropped 18-of-20 road games since July 1. Sheldon McDonald was a bright spot for the Hawks, retiring all 10 men he faced in relief, with three strikeouts.
The series finale is tomorrow night at 7:35 p.m. (MT) with Jose Rosario getting the ball for the Hawks.
