Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - A trio of errors in the bottom of the 8th inning cost the Canadians (8-15) a golden opportunity to make up ground on the West Division leading Everett Aquasox (15-8) falling 3-2 on Thursday night in front of a sold out crowd out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Canadians 3B Andy Burns hit a deep fly ball to centerfield in the bottom of the 2nd inning that took Everett CF Jarrett Burgess into the Scotiabank Field manually-operated scoreboard. As Burgess winced in pain on the ground, Burns would round the bases for an inside-the-park-home run to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead. Note: Burgess would come out of the game minutes later and is listed as day-to-day.

Vancouver would build on the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning when DH Roan Salas doubled off of Everett reliever LHP Kyle Hunter and later came around to score on a hard-hit single off the bat of SS Shane Opitz. The RBI extended the lead to 2-0 for the Canadians.

RHP Noah Syndergaard was dominant for the Canadians on Thursday as he struck out five of the first six batters he faced and eight over his five innings of no-hit baseball before turning the ball over to the Vancouver bullpen (RHP Eric Brown 2.1IP; RHP Bryan Longpre 1.2IP).

The Canadians would take the shutout bid into the top of the 8th inning before the defense showed cracks in its stability by committing three errors that produced a pair of runs for the Aquasox tying the game at 2-2.

Vancouver reliever RHP Bryan Longpre would pitch the top of the 9th inning and give up a single to 1B Jharmidy DeJesus before DH Jabari Blash would hit a towering double off the left field wall that would score PR Jetsy Extrano from first base to give Everett the lead.

The Canadians would go quietly and in order in the bottom of the 9th inning securing the Aquasox 3-2 victory.

With the loss, Vancouver falls seven games off the pace in the Northwest League's West Division with just seven home games remaining on the 2011 season.
