Indianapolis Indians News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Center fielder Matt Kata and second baseman Luis Ordaz combined to go 8-for-11 with three runs and one RBI, while first baseman Brad Eldred blasted two home runs as Indianapolis rolled to a 13-5 win over Louisville in front of 6,808 Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
The Indians improve to 60-56 on the season and 28-31 on the road, while the Bats fall to 57-61 overall and 30-31 at home. Thursday will be the Tribe's 262nd consecutive day with a record of .500 or better.
Indianapolis picks up three consecutive road wins for the first time since taking four straight from April 30-May 3. The Indians also tallied a season-high 10 extra-base hits in the affair, including three homers, two triples and five doubles.
Indianapolis exploded for seven runs in the fifth as seven straight batters reached base with two outs. The Tribe smacked three singles, two doubles, one triple and one homer in the big inning. Kata opened the flood gates with a two-bagger, while Eldred (3-for-5, 2 R, 4 RBI) highlighted the frame with his first dinger of the night -- a two-run shot to left.
The Indians added six runs in their next at-bat. RF Steven Pearce (2-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Eldred both blasted two-run homers to left. The shot gives Pearce 28 homers and 102 RBI between High-A, Double-A and Triple-A this season. Kata, SS Brian Bixler (2-for-5, 2 R, 1 RBI), LF Don Kelly (2-for-3, 2 R, 3 RBI) and 3B Yurendell de Caster (2-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI) all scored in the inning.
Louisville grabbed a 2-0 lead by scoring once in the third and once in the fourth. SS Paul Janish (1-for-4, 1 R) highlighted the third with a lead-off triple to right, while C Ryan Jorgensen lifted a sacrifice fly in the fourth to plate 1B Joey Votto (2-for-3, 1 R, 1 RBI).
The Bats added a run in the fifth and two scores in the sixth. Votto's RBI base knock keyed the fifth and LF Anderson Machado's (1-for-2, 2 RBI) two-run triple was the big hit in the sixth.
Indians LHP Michael Tejera (5.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO) earned the win, improving to 7-2.
Louisville RHP Elizardo Ramirez (4.2 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO) suffered the loss, falling to 2-3.
