Buffalo Bisons News Release
***Russell Branyan has been activated and is scheduled to bat 5th (DH) in tonight's game. He is just 3HR shy of tying Jeff Manto's Bisons' Modern Era Record of 79HR.
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Ottawa Lynx in the first game of a four-game series from Dunn Tire Park (7:05 p.m.). Buffalo will play their next ten games at home where they have a 29-24 record this season. On the mound tonight will be LHP John Koronka. He allowed just one earned run in 6.0 innings in a no-decision in Pawtucket on Thursday. The Lynx will counter with RHP Landon Jacobsen.
GO NORTH: All 27 of the Bisons remaining games are against the IL North division. The Bisons will play 17 of the next 21 games at Dunn Tire Park as each divisional rival will visit Buffalo during that stretch. The Bisons are 5-3 against the Lynx this season.
HOT HITTERS: Ben Francisco and Ryan Mulhern are pushing each other for the team lead in batting average. Francisco has hit in six straight while Mulhern has hit in 10 of his last 11 games. While Francisco leads the two with a .319 average to .311 for Mulhern, they are both still 5th and 6th respectively in the IL in hitting.
SOLID SOUTHPAW: John Koronka has been great in his last two starts for Buffalo. He collected his first Bisons win with seven shutout innings against Charlotte on July 27. On Thursday, he allowed just one earned run (three runs) over six innings in a no-decision at Pawtucket. In four games since joining the Herd, Koronka has posted a 2.91ERA.
THE CHASE IS ON: Slugger Russell Branyan was activated today and is scheduled to start in tonight's game. Branyan enters the game just three home runs shy of Jeff Manto's Modern Era record of 79. He hit 30 home runs in 1999 and 21 more in just 64 games in 2000. The slugger returned to Buffalo in 2004 and hit 25 more home runs. He was traded to Milwaukee on July 26, 2004 with 76 career Bisons home runs. Branyan's 202RBI are 3rd most in the Modern Era, 43 short of Bill Selby's team record (245).
LINKS ADDED: Russell Branyan adds another link to the Bisons last Governors' Cup Championship. Branyan hit .288 in 82 games for the Herd in 2004 . There are now four players on this year's team that played in 2004. Jason Cooper led the Bisons in the playoffs with a .375 (6-16) average. Scott Elarton and Matt Miller saw time with the Herd during the â04 regular season.
