Charlotte Independence News Release

Charlotte (NC) - The Charlotte Independence professional soccer team announced the club has signed 16-year-old goalkeeper Lucas Hatsios to an academy contract, pending league and federation approval. Hatsios has played over 90 games for the Carolina Rapids' U.S. Soccer Development Academy team.

"It feels great to get out here with all these professional players and up the intensity in my training," said Hatsios. "It's exciting to take that next step in being a high-level athlete."

Hatsios joined the Carolina Rapids as a 12-year-old and is currently playing with the U17 Development Academy team. As a U14, he received a call up to a U.S. Youth National Team Training Camp. Additionally, Hatsios has trained with the Colorado Rapids Academy.

Hatsios will be available for selection as the Independence returns to USL Championship action on Friday, March 15th for the 2019 Season Opening Game versus Indy Eleven at the Sportsplex at Matthews.
