March 15, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charlotte Independence News Release
Charlotte (NC) - The Charlotte Independence professional soccer team announced the club has signed striker Cabwey Kivutuka, pending league and federation approval. The 21-year-old forward last played for Congo Premier League sides AS Otôho and CARA Brazzaville.
Kivutuka began his professional career with CARA Brazzaville in 2016. Last season, Kivutuka made the move to AS Otôho, where he appeared in two Confederation of African Football Champions League games versus MC Alger.
Most recently, Kivutuka received a call up to the Congo National Team for a 2019 African Cup of Nations qualification match in Group G. Kivutuka was a halftime substitution in 2-1 to the Liberian National Team, lead by Independence defender Joel Johnson.
"The team, coaches and city have been very welcoming," said Kivutuka via translator. "It's my hope to contribute to the team and I look forward to a successful season."
Kivutuka will be available for selection as the Independence returns to USL Championship action on Friday, March 15th for the 2019 Season Opening Game versus Indy Eleven at the Sportsplex at Matthews.
