MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact selected defender Donny Toia on Wednesday with the sixth pick in the Chivas USA Dispersal Draft.

Toia, 22, finished third overall in minutes played for Chivas USA with 2,240, playing a total of 27 games, including 24 starts, in his first season in MLS. He also started one game in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament.

"We're very happy to have selected Donny because he's the player we wanted," said head coach and director of player personnel Frank Klopas. "He is an athletic young guy that has already played a lot of games in MLS. He's a good defender with experience that you don't usually get with a player of his age. He's a versatile, natural left back who can play both sides. We'll now see how he can fit in with the team at camp."

Native of Tucson, Arizona, Toia became the first ever Homegrown player to be signed to a professional contract by Real Salt Lake, on March 15, 2011.

He then played for FC Tucson (PDL), in 2012 and with Phoenix FC, in USL PRO, in 2013, before joining Chivas USA in January 2014.

At the international level, Toia represented the U.S. with the U18 and U20 teams.
