Colorado Rapids News Release

The Colorado Rapids selected forward Caleb Calvert with the eighth overall selection in today's Chivas USA dispersal draft.

Calvert, aged 18, was signed as a Homegrown Player by Chivas USA in July 2013 and was the youngest player in club history to sign a professional contract at age 16. Calvert will report to Colorado in January to join his new teammates for preseason.

From Wrightwood, Calif., the 6-foot-2 forward did not play in 2013 because of a foot fracture suffered shortly after signing with Chivas. But he rejoined the Chivas USA U-17/18 Development Academy squad in December of 2013 and began to work into shape to prepare for the 2014 season.

He did not appear in any regular season games for Chivas in 2014, but saw action in the Reserve League. He was also in the starting lineup of the Homegrown Game (pictured above), ahead of MLS All-Star Game in Portland. ESPN analyst Taylor Twellman highlighted his performance during the first half, when he had a couple of half-chances and made some good runs.

At the youth level, Calvert was a standout during the 2012-2013 U.S. Soccer Development Academy regular season for Chivas USA, scoring 22 goals, after which he was named Under-15/16 national player of the year.
