Idaho's Barlow Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie Of The Month For January

PRINCETON, N.J. - Idaho Steelheads forward and ECHL All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Evan Barlow has been selected as the Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month for January.

Barlow had 21 points (11g-10a) in nine games, including six power-play goals and a plus-minus rating of +5, to help Idaho go 7-2-0 and remain on top of the National Conference standings. He closed out the month with an eight-game point streak (11g-10a), a five-game assist streak (8a) and a four-game goal streak (8g).

He scored a career-high five points in back-to-back games including his first hat trick in an 8-5 win against Las Vegas on Jan. 24 and three assists and two goals in a 6-3 win at Bakersfield on Jan. 29.

The 24 year old was named the MVP of the All-Star Game after scoring four points (2g-2a) and having plus-minus rating of +4 for the National Conference in a 10-9 shootout loss on Jan. 20. He also helped lead the National Conference to an 11-10 win in the All-Star Skills Competition on Jan. 19.

Barlow leads the ECHL with 13 power-play goals and is tied for the lead with six game-winning goals while his 22 power-play points are tied for third. He leads ECHL rookies in plus-minus rating with +17 while his 48 points are second and his 23 goals and 25 assists are third.

The Strathmore, Alberta native played for Cornell University from 2005-09 and had 61 points (28g-33a) and 143 penalty minutes in 126 games. He played two seasons in the British Columbia Hockey League and had 126 points (58g-68a) in 109 regular season games and eight points (7g-1a) and 33 penalty minutes in 14 playoff games or Salmon Arm.

Runners-Up: Andrew Carroll, Charlotte (14 gp, 10g, 6a, 16 pts) and Matt Pierce, Cincinnati (14gp, 9g, 6a, 15 pts).

Also Nominated: Nick Mazzolini (Alaska), Adam Naglich (Bakersfield), Pat Galivan (Gwinnett), Trent Daavettila (Kalamazoo), Peter Lenes (Ontario), Jimmy Fraser (Reading), Rob Ricci (South Carolina), Maxime Tanguay (Toledo) and Tim Crowder (Utah).
