Idaho Steelheads News Release
(Boise, ID) - Idaho forwards Mark Derlago and Evan Barlow each received league-wide accolades on Thursday, with Derlago being named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Player of the Month and Barlow being named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month for January.
Derlago's award is on the heels of being named the league's player of the week earlier this week. The 24-year-old Manitoba native was borderline unstoppable in 11 January games for Idaho, tallying 24 points (8 goals, 16 assists). He's in the midst of a team-high nine-game point streak - in eight of the nine, he's registered at least two points.
Barlow, also 24, put up 21 points in just nine January games, including back-to-back five-point outings against Las Vegas on January 24 and Bakersfield on January 29. He was also named MVP of the ECHL All Star Game on January 20 after scoring two goals and adding two assists for the National Conference squad.
Barlow, who was loaned to the AHL's Abbotsford Heat on Wednesday, and Derlago are Idaho's top two scorers this season. Barlow has 48 total points (23 goals, 25 assists) and Derlago has 44 (17 goals, 27 assists).
Barlow received the league's monthly award for top plus-minus rating earlier this season. Rejean Beauchemin (twice) and Richard Bachman (once) have each been named the league's Goaltender of the Week as well.
The Steelheads are in Las Vegas this weekend for games Thursday, Friday, and Saturday against the Wranglers. Game time each night is 8 PM and can be heard live with Doug Plagens on KTIK (1350 AM) or www.ktik.com.
Idaho returns home to host the Utah Grizzlies on Wednesday, February 10. Tickets are available at the Qwest Arena box office or by calling 208.331.TIXS. Group outings are a great way to get friends, family, co-workers, or colleagues together to enjoy a night out at great savings over walk-up ticket prices.
