Idaho Splits Weekend Series with Austin

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Stampede defeated the Austin Spurs, 100-90, on Saturday night at CenturyLink Arena.

Idaho got off to a slow start, shooting 28.6 percent from the field compared to Austin's 61.9 percent in the first quarter. The Spurs momentum carried over into the second frame, and they finished the half with a 58-48 advantage over the Stampede. Idaho took a 63-62 lead with 2:06 remaining in the third period and went on to outscore Austin 30-26 in the fourth quarter.

"We were down at the half but came back and started making shots," said Stampede Head Coach Dean Cooper. "We are a resilient bunch and made defensive and offensive plays. My guys showed a lot of guts and I couldn't be more proud."

All five Idaho starters scored double figures, led by Utah Jazz assignee Tibor Pleiss, who registered a near double-double with 24 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Corey Hawkins recorded a career-high 21 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Treveon Graham added 20 points and eight rebounds. JJ O'Brien (16 points) and Jared Cunningham (11 points and four assists) combined for 27 points.

Austin was paced by Deshaun Thomas (26 points and seven rebounds) and Nick Johnson (10 points and six assists). Atlanta Hawks assignee Walter Tavares scored 11 points and six rebounds as a reserve.

Idaho will remain at home this week to take on the Oklahoma City Blue on Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. MT.
