The Canton Charge (27-15), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeated the Erie BayHawks (11-30), 117-99, in front of 3,514 at the Memorial Civic Center on Saturday night.
Canton's Nick Minnerath led all scorers with 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting in 32 minutes off the bench. Lamar Patterson provided an all-around effort of 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting with six boards and five assists in 24 minutes on assignment from the Atlanta Hawks. John Holland netted 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting in 21 minutes.
Canton took a 7-6 lead at the 9:06 mark in the first and never looked back, going ahead by as many as 27. Erie cut the deficit to 71-65 with 7:54 left in the third, but the Charge responded with a 12-0 run to pull away en route to their 22nd win in the last 26 games. The Charge are now 2-1 versus the BayHawks with the final meeting of the season between the two teams coming on March 26th in Erie.
C.J. Wilcox scored 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting with four assists and two steals in 22 minutes on assignment from the Los Angeles Clippers. Mike Stockton scored nine points, dished seven assists, and nabbed three steals in 29 minutes. Canton improved to 15-1 this season when scoring over 100 points at home, while their third-ranked scoring defense helped boost the Charge to 16-5 overall this year when holding opponents under 100 points.
The BayHawks we led by Melvin Ejim's 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting with five rebounds, six assists, and two steals in 38 minutes. Myck Kabongo came off the bench to provide 17 points, seven boards, and two steals in 27 minutes. Keith Appling added 16 points and five rebounds in 30 minutes for Erie.
The Charge host the Maine Red Claws (Boston Celtics affiliate) at the Canton Civic Center for their next game on Wednesday, March 16th at 7:00 p.m. The game, a make-up for the cancelled School Day matchup on January 20th, will feature special ticket prices for all fans to enjoy.
