Idaho Notches Another Dramatic OT Victory

(Boise, ID) - Geoff Irwin's shot bounced off of two Bakersfield defenders and into the Condor net with 17 seconds left in overtime Wednesday night, lifting the Idaho Steelheads to a dramatic, 3-2, victory in front of 3,363 fans at Qwest Arena in Boise.
Irwin's game-winner - his sixth goal in as many games - came eight days after Aki Seitsonen knocked home an OT winner with just five seconds left against Ontario.
Irwin carried the puck up the near side of the ice and fired a shot toward Bakersfield netminder Josh Tordjman. But it was deflected by Condor defenseman Erik Burgdoerfer off of teammate Jay Cascalenda past a helpless Tordjman for the game-winner.
After a scoreless first period, Idaho got on the board first when Marty Flichel pushed a rebound into the vacated Condor net. His 14th of the season gave Idaho a 1-0 lead. It was short-lived, though, as Tyler Gotto scored a power play goal less than four minutes later to tie the game. The Condors would take the lead late in the second frame on a Adam Naglich goal, but Idaho evened the score late in the second when Steve Oleksy fed Aki Seitsonen for his seventh of the season at the 16:01 mark to tie the game at two.
It remained that way through the third period and most of overtime as Tordjman and Idaho's Tyler Beskorowany made several saves to set up Irwin's dramatic game-winner late in overtime. Flichel and Guillaume Monast assisted on Irwin's ninth of the season - seven of which have come in the past eleven games.
Beskorowany made 31 saves on 33 shots in the victory. He is now 10-3-4 on the season. Tordjman stopped 30 of 33 and is now 15-13-3.
