Forward Justin Hodgman Assigned to Reading

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that forward Justin Hodgman ["HODJ man"] has been assigned from the Marlies to the Royals. In a separate transaction, the Maple Leafs have recalled goaltender Ben Scrivens and assigned him to the Marlies. In other transactions also announced today, (i) forward Olivier Labelle has been returned to Reading from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL; (ii) forward Brett Gallant was loaned by the Royals to Bridgeport; and (iii) the Royals signed goaltender Shane Davis as the team's Emergency Back-Up Goaltender.

Hodgman, who is in his second full year of pro, has registered twenty-one points (8g-13a) in thirty-one games with the Marlies this season. He was a member of the Fort Wayne Komets' International Hockey League Turner Cup Champion teams for the past three consecutive seasons and was named as the IHL's Playoff Most Valuable Player in 2008. Hodgman, who hails from Brampton, Ontario, played thirty-three ECHL games last year with the Toledo Walleye, picking up twenty-one points (9g-21a) and thirty-five penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, Hodgman led the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League in scoring for three straight years. In 254 total OHL games, he registered 217 points (87g-130) and 264 penalty minutes.

This marks the fifth time this year that Scrivens, a first year pro from Spruce Grove, Alberta, has been recalled from the Royals and re-assigned to the Marlies. In thirteen games with Reading, Scrivens has compiled a 10-3-0-0 record with a 2.23 goals against average and a .938 save percentage. Last weekend, Scrivens picked up a pair of wins for Reading, including a fifty-save victory over the Trenton Devils last Friday, extending his personal win streak to a team record nine games. In thirteen games with the Marlies this year, Scrivens has gone 5-2-3 with a 2.25 gaa, .927 save percentage and one shutout. Labelle, a fifth year pro from St. Eustache, Quebec, was loaned by the Royals to the Sound Tigers on November 19, 2010. In thirty-four games with Bridgeport, he picked up five points (3g-2a) and seventy-four penalty minutes. In thirteen games with Reading, Labelle has ten points (8g-2a) and forty-eight penalty minutes. For Gallant, a second year pro from Summerside, Prince Edward Island, this is his first call-up to the AHL this season. He has registered three points (1g-2a) and fifty-two penalty minute sin twelve games with Reading this year. Prior to joining the Royals, Gallant played thirteen games with the Elmira Jackals, where he racked up eighty penalty minutes. Gallant has previously played one AHL game in his career. This is the second time this season that Davis has served as the Royals Emergency Back-Up Goaltender. He was previously signed as the EBG on November 4 and release two days later.

The Royals return to action on Friday (February 11, 2011 @ 7:05 pm), when the team will travel to Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to take on the Wheeling Nailers.
