INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks and Evansville IceMen faced each other for the second consecutive night Saturday night at Independence Events Center. The IceMen mounted an offensive attack against the Mavericks, scoring six goals on 29 shots and getting a 45-save performance from goaltender Pier-Olivier Pelletier. The Mavericks fell out of first place for the first time this season and now trail Evansville in the standings by one point. Dale Mahovsky, Andrew Courtney and Ed McGrane all scored goals for the Mavericks and Sebastien Thinel collected two assists on the night and now leads the CHL with 17 assists.

Evansville got the scoring started at the 12:59 mark of the first period on a goal from Malcolm Gwilliam. Assists on the goal went to Karl Linden and Mike Sgroi. Evansville doubled their lead a minute later, when Mavs' goaltender Gerry Festa misplayed a puck. Todd Robinson gathered the loose puck and shot it into the empty net. The goal was unassisted. The Mavericks got on the scoreboard late in the period on a power play goal from Andrew Courtney. Assists on the goal went to Sebastien Thinel and Ed McGrane. The period ended with the Mavericks outshooting the IceMen 23-15.

The IceMen extended their lead in the second period on a goal from Niklas Lindberg. Assisting on the goal was Steve Makway. Evansville struck again at the 8:53 mark of the second, when Phillippe Plante buried a loose puck in the slot, putting the IceMen up 4-1. The goal was assisted by John Ronan. Missouri drew closer on a goal from Ed McGrane at the 13:49 mark of the second period. Thinel and Ryan Jardine were credited with the assists on the goal.

Evansville pushed their lead back to three on an unassisted breakaway goal from Brian Bicek at the 6:15 mark of the third period. Dale Mahovsky added a late goal for the Mavericks, with assists from Andrew Courtney and Ed McGrane. Evansville added an empty net goal from Ronan and skated to the 6-3 victory. Missouri falls to 7-3-2 on the season and is not in first place in the Turner Conference for the first time this season.

Sebastien Thinel extended his CHL assists lead to 17 on the night with his two helpers. Evansville goaltender Pier-Olivier Pelletier stole the show with 45 saves on 48 shots.

The Mavericks are now off for six days and return to action next Friday night at the IEC, when they take on the Allen Americans.
