Bloomington Blaze News Release

BLOOMINGTON -- The Bloomington Blaze, presented by Mid-Illini Credit Union, tied the Dayton Gems twice but both times gave up goals within a minute later to fall to the Gems 3-2 on Saturday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

The Gems broke on top first when Jonathan Ornelas went one-on-one into the slot and fired the puck past the glove side of Blaze goalie Marco Emond.

The Blaze tied the game with a power play goal with 9:06 remaining in the second period when Jon Booras corralled a bouncing puck past the right post. The Gems went back in front 2-1 only 1:12 later when Brett Lutes slapped one from the left wing inside the right post.

Bloomington tied the contest on an athletic spin from deep on the right wing from Matt Whitehead with 4:04 remaining in the final period, but again the Gems regained the lead within a minute when Tim Hartung skated past the Blaze to score with 3:16 left. The Blaze were given a power play while emptying their net for an extra attacker, but could not convert chances in the final seconds.

The Blaze outshot the Gems 38-24. Dayton improves to 5-4-3 and 2-0-1 against the Blaze, while Bloomington falls for the tenth straight game with a record of 1-8-2.

The Blaze are off until Thanksgiving night when they travel to Fort Wayne, then come home for a Friday night contest against the Dayton Gems and a Saturday tilt with the Allen Americans in the only matchup of the season between the two squads.
