Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (8-5-0) took another win over the Laredo Bucks (3-8-0) on Saturday night by a 5-2 score. Aaron Lee added two more goals to his league leading total in the win.
The win capped a marvelous homestand as the Bees went 7-2-0 over their nine game stay at the Hive. The victory also put them in an early lead in the season series with the Laredo Bucks. The Bees are currently 3-1-0 over their rival.
The Bees opened the night with a goal at 8:43 into the first period. Aaron Lee took the feed from AJ Mikkelsen and fired one past Torrie Jung.
Laredo remained scoreless in the first period.
The Bees slid another one into the net at 4:33 into the second period. Brandon Campos took a feed from the behind the net and fired it past Jung, Adam Bartholomay and Tomas Klempa had the assists. It was Campos' second goal of the season.
Laredo would get one goal back at 11:05 of the second as Jason Reese drilled a shot from the point past John Murray.
The Bees rallied, scoring two straight goals to take a 3-1 lead at the end of the frame.
Aaron Lee scored his second of the game at the 13:10 mark. Jung made the initial save on a dump but he lost track of the rebound, Lee got a stick on it and made him pay.
Late in the second period, Zac Pearson took the puck in from the Bees zone and powered past the defense and draw Jung out of the crease. The shot missed but Charles Fontaine arrived late to pot the puck into the open net. It was Fontaine's first goal of the season.
Ryan Sparling scored for the Bucks in the third but an AJ Mikkelsen power play goal iced the game for the Bees.
The Bees return to action this coming weekend taking on the Arizona Sundogs from Tim's Toyota Center at 8:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday night.
