Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - Steve Silverthorn held off a furious rush in the final minute by the Arizona Sundogs to carry the Texas Brahmas to a 3-2 win on Saturday night at Tim's Toyota Center. With the win, the Brahmas take two of three games from the Sundogs during the weekend set.
After Arizona had pulled the goaltender, Silverthorn's sliding save at the left goal post in the game's final seconds highlighted a third period in which the Sundogs outshot the Brahmas 18-10. Mark Ehl scored the game-winner on the power play for Texas midway through the third period after David Nimmo had tied the game at 2-2 four minutes into the frame.
For the Sundogs, it was their league-leading ninth one-goal game of the season. Levente Szuper turned in a 37-save performance for Arizona.
Andrew Lackner opened up the game's scoring midway through the first period with a slap shot from the point that beat a screened Szuper to give Texas a 1-0 lead.
In period two both teams traded goals as Phil Fox extended the Brahmas' lead with a power play goal on a one-time in the left circle. Jeff Hazelwood put Arizona on the board after a backhand shot from the bottom of the right circle snuck through the legs of Silverthorn for his first of the season.
Luke Erickson extended his point streak to six games with an assist on Nimmo's goal. The Sundogs scored two of their goals on the power play for the second straight game.
Both teams went 2-for-6 on the man advantage.
The Sundogs now head back on the road for two games next week. Arizona meets the Tulsa Oilers for the first time this season on Tuesday at 6:05 PM MST.
