Peoria Rivermen News Release
Carter Hutton made 19 saves and Martin St. Pierre scored the game-winning goal as the IceHogs downed the Rivermen 4-1 on Sunday night at the BMO Harris Bank Center. Yannick Veilleux, in just his second professional game, scored for the second night in a row but it proved to be Peoria's only bright spot.
The Rivermen now have a record of 31-32-4-3 with six games remaining in the regular season.
After a scoreless first period, Jimmy Hayes opened up the scoring 2:00 into the second frame. Hayes took a wrist shot from the high-slot that found its way past the glove of Mike McKenna. Joe Lavin picked up the lone assist on the 23rd goal of the season for Hayes.
Martin St. Pierre scored his 25th goal of the season just 61 seconds into the third period to give Rockford a 2-0 lead. Adam Clendening took a shot that produced a rebound for St. Pierre, who was able to capitalize on the opportunity. Clendening and Jeremy Morin assisted on the tally.
Peoria cut Rockford's lead in half with the goal by Veilleux with 9:32 remaining in the third. As he tried to hit Sonne with a backdoor pass, the puck deflected off the skate of a defender and past Carter Hutton.
Less than two minutes later, Brad Mills scored his seventh goal of the year to make it a 3-1 game. Rostislav Olesz and Brandon Pirri got credit with the assists. Morin added an empty-netter with 27.3 seconds remaining in regulation.
Peoria missed out on all six of their power-play opportunities while Rockford outshot Peoria 31-20.
The Rivermen will return home for a contest against Rockford Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. For tickets or information call 309-676-1040 or visit www.rivermen.net.
