IceDogs Sink Otters with 4-2 Win
March 6, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs defeated the CHL's number one ranked Erie Otters on Sunday with a hard fought 4-2 victory.
The first period saw some good back-and-forth action between the two teams, with the Dogs coming out strong while playing their third contest in three days. Niagara's Alex Nedeljkovic displayed his athleticism in the first 20 minutes, making some top quality saves against the Otters. The shots on goal in the frame favoured Erie 11-6.
Erie would get the game rolling with an early goal to start the second, but the Dogs stuck to it and would have no part of an Otters' lead for much longer. Anthony DiFruscia got the team on the board with a power play goal and then Ben Jones put home a rebound with just under one minute remaining in the period to gives the Dogs' the 2-1 lead heading into the third.
The third period saw Nedeljkovic stand tall and make numerous key saves for the Dogs. Graham Knott would snap a quick wrist shot through the wickets of Erie goaltender Devin Williams to give the Dogs the 3-1 lead, before the Otters would answer to make it 3-2. That would be as close as Erie managed to get however, as DiFruscia once again came up huge and gave the Dogs the 4-2 lead to put the game out of reach in the third.
Graham Knott hit a major milestone with his game winning goal, as the goal would be his 100th career OHL point. Congratulations to Graham on his major achievement.
The IceDogs will now get some rest before their next game at home against the Flint Firebirds on Thursday at 7:00 PM. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs' ticketing locations.
