Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs picked up a massive 5-2 road win in Sudbury on Saturday night. The win moves the IceDogs back into a tie for the 8th and final playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
The IceDogs would get things off to just the start they were looking for in the first period as Graham Knott would tip one home to give the visitors a 1-0 lead just 2:10 in. Goaltenders Brent Moran and Franky Palazzese would be on their games through the rest of the period as the score would remain 1-0 headed into the first intermission. Shots after one favoured the IceDogs 10-9.
The IceDogs would come out flying in the second period looking to extend their lead, but they would be unable to find the back of the net and Sudbury would capitalize on a powerplay late in the period to send the teams headed to the third tied 1-1. Shots after 40 continued to favour the IceDogs 28-23.
Both teams would come into the third period looking for the all important go ahead goal and would be the IceDogs who would get it, as Blake Siebenaler would fire one home on the powerplay after a nice set up by Vince Dunn to make it 2-1. The IceDogs would not stop there, as Eric Ming would put home a shorthanded goal just under three minutes later to give the IceDogs a bit of a cushion with a 3-1 lead. Sudbury would not go away however and would answer with a goal of their own with just over five minutes remaining to cut the IceDogs lead to 3-2. The IceDogs would continue their strong play and the lead would be restored to two once again with 1:31 remaining as Ming would pick up his second of the period, this time on the powerplay, putting home a feed from Jordan Maletta to make it 4-2. Billy Jenkins would then add an empty net goal late to give the IceDogs a key 5-2 victory. Final shots favoured the IceDogs 41-36.
The IceDogs will now finish off their weekend tomorrow afternoon when they finish off their northern weekend road trip by visiting the North Bay Battalion. The IceDogs will then return home to St. Catharines where they will host the Plymouth Whalers on Thursday, March 6th at 7pm. Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location!
