Erie benefited from a powerplay with thirteen minutes left in the second period when Brandon Gaunce finished off a systematic passing play set up by Dane Fox and Connor Brown to go up 4-1 on Saginaw. Saginaw capitalized on their own powerplay when Jimmy Lodge snuck a rebound shot past Erie goaltender Oscar Dansk for his eighteenth goal of the season that was assisted by Eric Locke and Jesse Graham with less than two minutes remaining in the second period.
