Francesco Vilardi had two goals and an assist, as the Whalers blanked the Spitfires 5-0 in Plymouth Saturday night, in front of 2,985 at The Compuware Arena.
The trio of Vilardi, Ryan Hartman (1G, 1A) and Matt Mistele (1G, 2A) combined for eight points.
Hartman's 23rd of the season less than nine minutes into the first period stood up as the winner, as the Spitfires couldn't solve Alex Nedeljkovic, who made 26 saves in goal for the shutout.
Dalen Kuchmey made 30 saves before being replaced by Brenden Johnston (5 saves), backing up in place of the injured Alex Fotinos.
The Spits are back at it Thursday night, as they host the Saginaw Spirit at the WFCU Centre.
