Belleville Bulls News Release
BELLEVILLE, ON - It's not very often that teams have an opportunity the night after a 10-2 drubbing to make things right. The Belleville Bulls might sleep better on Saturday night should they put their best foot forward in the back end of a weekend home and home with the Kingston Frontenacs at the Yardmen Arena tonight. Friday the Bulls were on the wrong end of a lopsided total, one that saw Sam Bennett net his second hat-trick of the season against the Bulls.
The Frontenacs, who are gearing up for a playoff run are currently the third placed team in the Eastern Conference. With a penchant for goal scoring, Kingston leads the Eastern Conference in goals for with 261 and presents a variety of offensive weaponry in sophomores Sam Bennett and Spencer Watson along with overaged shooter Darcy Greenaway to name a few.
Bennett put on another head turning performance on Friday night, scoring three times in a span of 9:44 to take over the game for the Frontenacs. They say speed kills, and when moving their feet, this team legitimizes the mantra.
A lone bright spot for the Bulls on Friday, Cameron Brace scored twice to bring his career total to 100 in 258 OHL games. A Markham native, Brace had goals in seven of the Bulls' twelve February contests, finishing the month with a total of 8 goals and 7 assists.
As he often does, Alex Yuill has quietly strung together assists in three straight games. Though he, along with the rest of the Bulls' defence corps, had a tough night at the office on Friday, Yuill continues to play with poise and intelligence on the Belleville blueline.
Seven games remain on the regular season schedule for Belleville as the gap to the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference currently sits at four points. The Ottawa 67's, who hold down the eighth spot, visit the Barrie Colts tonight.
The Frontenacs are in a small race of their own. They hold down the third spot in the East with a current edge over North Bay. The two clubs are tied in points, but the Fronts have more victories and two games in hand. The Battalion host Niagara on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulls received a reinforcement on the blueline on Friday night as Adam Bignell returned to the lineup. Both Stephen Harper and Aaron Berisha played a mix of forward and defence in Kingston.
Tonight's game is presented by RONA and is slated for a 7:05pm puck drop. Join the Bulls as they look for a bounce back effort at home to their biggest rival!
