IceCats Loaned Defenseman

WORCESTER, MA – St. Louis Blues Senior Vice President and General Manager Larry Pleau today announced that the club has loaned defenseman Christian Backman to the Blues American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Worcester IceCats.

A native of Alingsas, Sweden, Backman was originally recalled by the Blues on October 11th. The 6-3, 208 pound defenseman registered one goal and two assists and no penalty minutes in 11 games with St. Louis: 11(1/2/3). Selected by the Blues with their first choice, 24th overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, he recorded his first NHL goal on October 22nd in Vancouver.

His lone game with the IceCats this season came in the season opener on October 10th in Manchester, where he notched the overtime game-winning goal. His overall IceCats totals reflect 73 games, nine goals, 19 assists and 66 penalty minutes: 73(9/19/28)66.

The IceCats return to Worcester's Centrum Centre for a 7:05 face off with the Lowell Lock Monsters on Wednesday, November 26th.
