October 11, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release
The St. John's IceCaps clawed their way out of an early hole and rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Saturday night at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn.
Ex-IceCap Kael Mouillierat sniped a pair of first period goals to stake his new team to a 2-0 lead over St. John's, before the IceCaps reeled off three unanswered tallies.
Defenceman Ben Chiarot started the IceCaps rally with 1:18 left in the first, converting a cross-ice pass from Kyle MacKinnon at the left face-off circle, beating Bridgeport netminder Kevin Poulin top shelf. Blair Riley was also awarded an assist.
The IceCaps squared the game at 8:19 of the second on a seeing-eye wrist shot by rookie Scott Kosmachuk. The goal, assisted by John Albert and Keaton Ellerby, was the first of Kosmachuk's professional career. IceCaps newcomer Julien Brouillette sealed the victory for St. John's as he waltzed in from the point and teed up a slap shot that went top shelf at the 4:25 mark of the third. Brenden Kichton and Eric O'Dell picked up helpers.
The win was the first pro victory for St. John's rookie netminder Connor Hellebuyck.
