
Syracuse Crunch Announce 2014-15 Captains

Syracuse, N.Y. - Syracuse Crunch Head Coach Rob Zettler announced today Mike Angelidis will return as team captain with JP Cote, Joey Mormina, Mike Blunden and Cedric Paquette to split duties as alternate captains. Cote and Paquette will wear the A at home, Blunden and Mormina on the road.
Angelidis, 29, has served as Crunch captain since the 2012-13 season and also led Tampa Bay's 2011-12 AHL affiliate the Norfolk Admirals to a Calder Cup Championship. The center has played 146 games in a Crunch uniform collecting 57 points (23g, 34a) and 319 penalty minutes. Angelidis is the club's 14th full-time captain in franchise history (Dane Jackson, 1994-95, Mark Wotton, 1995-99, Brian Bonin, 1999-00, Mike Gaul, 2000-01, Sean Pronger, 2001-02, David Ling 2002-03, Darrell Scoville, 2003-04, Jamie Pushor, 2004-07, Zenon Konopka 2007-08, Dan Smith 2008-09 and Derek MacKenzie 2009-10, Joe DiPenta 2010-11, Nate Guenin 2011-12).
Cote, 32, has served as a Crunch alternate captain since the 2012-13 season. The blueliner has 30 points (5g, 25a) and 200 penalty minutes in 107 games with the Crunch. The Lightning signed Cote to a two-year NHL contract on December 18, 2013.
Mormina, 32, served as an alternate captain during the 2013-14 season after signing with the Crunch as a free agent on July 3, 2013. The defenseman has 13 points (3g, 10a) and 86 penalty minutes in 56 games for the Crunch last season.
Blunden, 27, joins the Crunch this season after being signed as a free agent by the Lightning on July 1, 2014. The right wing is a veteran of 379 career AHL games with Hamilton, the Syracuse Crunch (2008-2010), Rockford IceHogs and Norfolk Admirals, posting 187 points (83g and 104a).
Paquette, 21, was the club's 2013-14 co-MVP recording 44 points (20g, 24a) and 153 penalty minutes in his rookie season. Paquette made his NHL debut for the Lightning on April 11, 2014.
