Ice Pilots Salute Military with Auction

Pensacola, FL - The Ice Pilots fought hard, but dropped a 5-2 decision to South Carolina before 3,176 fans at the Pensacola Civic Center.

Ty Morris gave South Carolina a 1-0 lead at 9:29 of the first period. Dominic Soucy and Ryan Finnerty assisted on the goal. The Ice Pilots didnt stay down for long, as Pete Gardiner tied the score at one at the 13:39 mark of the period. Shaun Landolt and Mark Rooneem got the assists. The game stayed tied going into the first intermission.

The Stingrays blew the game open in the second period, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead. Call MacLean scored a power play goal at 2:17 of the period, and Ryan Finnerty scored at 5:35 to give South Carolina a 3-1 lead. Likit Anderson made it 4-1 at 16:22 of the second. Marty Clapton assisted on all three second period goals.

Evan Schwabe gave the Stingrays a 5-1 lead just over a minute into the third period. The Ice Pilots cut the lead to 5-2 on a Brendan Cook goal at 5:34 of the third, but couldnt get any closer. Davis Parley got the win for South Carolina, stopping 28 of 30 shots. David Cann took the loss for Pensacola, dropping his record to 1-7-2.

Despite the loss, the Ice Pilots got the second and third stars of the game. Brendan Cook, who had a goal, was the second star of the game, and Adam Courchaine earned the third star of the game. Ty Morris was the first star of the game, registering a goal to lead South Carolina to the victory.

Spirits were still high in the arena as fans bid on the special Military jerseys worn by the Ice Pilots. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Pensacola Community Fund.

During the game, fans also had a chance to continue to vote for their choice for the 2006-07 Ice Pilots logo. The ballot boxes were stuffed with plenty of ideas from the eager Ice Pilot fans as voting came to end.

The next Ice Pilots home game is Friday, March 17 against the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:05 PM.
