Steelheads Rout RoadRunners 5-1

Boise, Idaho - Marty Flichel tallied a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the Idaho Steelheads to a 5-1 victory over the Phoenix RoadRunners and a three-game series sweep before 5,048 at Qwest Arena in ECHL action Saturday.

After a scoreless first period, the Steelheads (32-18-7) forced RoadRunners starting goaltender Mike Mole from the game with three goals in the first 10 minutes of the second period. Matt Reid opened the scoring when he collected David Bararuk's rebound at the left-wing circle and flipped a shot into the back of the net just 2:30 into the period to give Idaho a 1-0 lead. Jarad Bourassa made it 2-0, firing a blast from the high slot over Mole's right shoulder at 8:46. Flichel finished Mole's night with backhander from inside the left-wing circle just 1:03 seconds later to give the Steelheads a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Idaho continued their assault with two more goals in the final period. Bararuk finished a cross-ice pass from Flichel past goaltender Ryan Cyr 2:56 into the third on the power play, and Flichel netted his second of the game at 12:22 to build the lead to 5-0. Justin Quenneville broke the RoadRunners' scoreless drought of 147:36 seconds with his ninth goal of the season from the right wing circle at 17:58 to close the scoring.

Idaho out-shot Phoenix (18-34-3) 35-25. Mole stopped 14 shots in falling to 14-25-3 on the season. The RoadRunners went 0-4 on the power play while the Steelheads were 1-6 on the man advantage.

Notes: Idaho swept the inaugural season series against the RoadRunners, winning all seven games by a margin of 34-10...Phoenix has killed off 62 of their opponents last 73 chances on the power play...The RoadRunners are now 10-22-1 against the rest of the West Division.
