Ice Pilots dumped by Checkers, 5-2

PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots surrendered two second and two-third period goals and fell to the Charlotte Checkers 5-2 on Tuesday night at The Hangar.

It was the third straight loss by the Ice Pilots and it snapped a two-game winning streak against the Checkers. Charlotte improved its record to 13-9-0-1 for 27 points while the Ice Pilots fell to 5-15-1-1 for 12 points.

The Checkers got on the board with a late first-period goal and then an early second-period marker to make it 2-0. Charlotte scored what proved to be the game winner midway through the third period on the power play to make it 3-0.

Later in the period, the Checkers added a couple of power play goals to make it 5-0 before Pensacola answered with its own when Dwayne Hay scored on a wrist shot on the power play from Travis Lisabeth goaltender Mike Ayers. Near the end of the game Adam Taylor scored from Dallas Steward and Lisabeth and it was 5-2.

Pensacola out shot Charlotte 38-36. There were a total of 20 power plays in the game as Charlotte was 3 for 12, while Pensacola was 1 for 8.

There was a skirmish in the third period that saw four members of the Pensacola Ice Pilots ejected from the game and that included Rob Rankin, Brent Henley, Mario Joly and Jason Goulet. Three Charlotte Checkers' players were also ejected from the game as well.

The Pensacola Ice Pilots return to action on Friday when they travel to Gwinnett for the first time this season to face the Gladiators at 7:30 pm eastern, 6:30 pm central time. Fans can tune into the game via the Internet only at www.icepilots.com by clicking on the sportsjuice logo. The game will not be available on Classic Country AM1620 due to a high school football all-star game.

The road trip will continue on Saturday when the Ice Pilots visit Columbia, South Carolina to visit the Inferno. The game can be heard on Classic Country AM1620 beginning with Ice Pilots Countdown to face-off at 5:45 pm central. The face-off will follow at 6 pm. Central time.
