The Pensacola Ice Pilots played a determined road game in South Florida on Friday night, but fell to the Everblades 5-3.

The Ice Pilots battled back from a 3-0 early second-period deficit and trailed by one goal on two different occasions but couldn't get the equalizer.

The Everblades improved their record to 28-14-2-0 for 58 points, while the Ice Pilots fell to 14-31-1-1 for 30 points.

The Ice Pilots got off to a slow start in the opening period and surrendered the game's first goal and it was 1-0.

In the second period, the Everblades extended their lead to 3-0 on two goals in less than a minute.

However the Ice Pilots received several breaks from the officials and had numerous power plays, including a five on three and got back in the game. First Rob Rankin netted his 11th goals from Sergei Ogorodnikov and Rene Gauthier. About five minutes later, the Ice Pilots pulled to within one goal when Ogorodnikov deflected home a shot from Nate Metcalf and Dan Sullivan to make it 3-2.

The Ice Pilots were short staffed and dress just 12 skaters due to healthy scratches of David Wrigley, Travis Lisabeth and Mike Wirll.
