Steelheads Trade For Chabbert

BOISE, ID - The Idaho Steelheads announced today that they have acquired the rights of defenseman Steve Chabbert from the Dayton Bombers in exchange for future considerations. The 26-year-old Chabbert, who has 23 points in 97 professional games, is expected to make his Steelheads' debut either tonight or tomorrow night against the Victoria Salmon Kings.

Chabbert, a Sioux Lookout, Ontario native has not played since 2005-2006 when he recorded one goal and eight assists in 23 games with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. Prior to joining the Marlies, Chabbert attended York University in Canada, where he skated in 70 career contests. The 6'2", 220 lb. blue liner spent two seasons in the ECHL with the Roanoke Express and the Greensboro Generals before attending college, making his professional debut on 10/17/01 with the Express.

"Steve comes as a highly recommended defenseman that will definitely be an asset to our defensive corps," Steelheads' head coach Derek Laxdal said.
