Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, are pleased to announce the final numbers for their Hat Trick for Literacy reading campaign. The program, which was accepted by seven Greater Victoria schools, challenged students to 'Become Bookworms - and get Hooked on Reading!'

Students were required to read three books and submit three book reports, and in exchange receive a ticket to a Salmon Kings game in the week of February 12th. For the Salmon Kings second annual launch, they received a record total 218 submissions from Eagle View Elementary, George Jay Elementary, Willows Elementary, Frank Hobbs Elementary, Tillicum Elementary, Macaulay Elementary, Strawberry Vale Elementary, and from home school participants.

The top three schools to return the most completed forms receive a visit from the Salmon Kings players, wherein they will read to classrooms and play a game of floor hockey. Eagle View finished first with 31% of the student population completing reports, with George Jay in second spot and Willows rounding out the top three.

A group of players and Marty the mascot will visit Eagle View and a group of players will visit George Jay at 1:30 p.m. on Monday February 12. Willows will welcome the Salmon Kings players on Tuesday February 13 at 1:30 p.m.

Group together and have more fun! Call (250) 220-7777 for fantastic group rates to Salmon Kings games and fundraising opportunities.
