Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - T he Pensacola Ice Flyers hosted the Huntsville Havoc tonight for the first time this year. The Flyers pulled out a big 7-3 with seven goals from six different players in a very chippy and entertaining game in front of 3,548 fans.

It didn't take long for the scoring to start as just 1:14 into the first, Drew Baker scored on the Ice Flyers' first shot of the game. Mike MacIntyre picked up the only assist on Baker's goal. Huntsville tied the game with 9:21 remaining in the period when Rob Florentino scored a power play goal. The Ice Flyers regained the lead with a power play goal of their own when John Dunbar fired in a shot that deflected off of a Havoc player before making its way past Havoc goalie Kevin Genoe. The power play continued to play a role in the period as the Havoc once again tied it with a goal by Josh Harris.

The Ice Flyers thought they had broken the 2-2 tie but the goal was disallowed with no explanation given. A short while later, Paul Rodrigues cashed in for real for the Ice Flyers with the assist going to Baker. A little over a minute after Rodrigues' goal, the Joe Bueltel dropped the gloves and took Huntsville's Corey Bellamy to the ice. With 7:40 left in the second, Podge Turnbull scored five hole after some beautiful stickhandling into the slot. Steve Bergin and Baker assisted on the marker that made it 4-2 for the Ice Flyers.

With the Ice Flyers on a penalty kill, Brett Lutes scored an unassisted, shorthanded goal to make it 5-2. It only took 1:40 before Good scored on the power play to make it 6-2. Steve Whitely and Joe Caveney assisted on the goal. Huntsville's Justin Fox cut the lead to 6-3 when he scored with 12:27 remaining in the game. Good continued to work hard and nothing exemplified that more than a sequence that saw him lay a big hit, score a goal, and then get into a fight behind the net. The goal was assisted by Paul Rodrigues and then Huntsville's Brandon Perry took exception to the hit and dragged Good into a fight.

Johnny Griggs stopped 21 of the 24 shots he saw from Huntsville. Rodrigues was named the third star of the night, Good the second, and Baker the first.

The Ice Flyers next game is back in the Hangar when they face the Mississippi RiverKings for the first time this season. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
