Mississippi RiverKings News Release

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Todd Hosmer tied the game late and Charles Lachance scored the game winner with under two minutes left as the Mississippi RiverKings (9-3-1) knocked off the Columbus Cottonmouths (4-8-1) 2-1 on Friday night.

The two teams skated the first 20 minutes without a goal, but just under eight minutes into the second, the Snakes struck. With Corey Banfield in the box for interference, Jordan Draper capitalized on a loose puck in front of Matt Krahn to give Columbus a 1-0 lead.

In the third, the RiverKings wasted little time finding the back of the net. Two minutes into the frame, Todd Hosmer's wrist shot beat Travis Bosch over the blocker to tie the game at one.

With under two minutes remaining in regulation, the RiverKings gained their first lead of the night. After the visitors cleared the puck out of their own zone, Charles Lachance beat a defender, scooped up the loose puck and beat Bosch on a breakaway to put the RiverKings up 2-1. The defense weathered last 90 seconds of Columbus offense with an extra attacker to win for the seventh time in their last nine games.

Matt Krahn (5-0-1) turned aside 22 of 23 shots against in the win. Travis Bosch (3-2-1) stopped 26 of 28 shots against in the loss.

The RiverKings return home tomorrow night to take on the Knoxville Ice Bears for the first time this season. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. with all the action airing live on the America One Sports Network.
