Ice Dogs Upset Bombers On Teddy Bear Toss Night

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Bombers dropped a 6-3 decision to the Long Beach Ice Dogs in front of 3817 at the Ervin J. Nutter Center Friday night. It was also the annual "Teddy Bear Toss" to benefit the Children's Medical Center of Dayton.

The Ice Dogs opened the scoring just 32 seconds into the game when Steve Villenueve scored his first of two goals in the game. Bombers head coach Don MacAdam immediately called time-out, and his team rallied to take a 2-1 lead with first period goals from Brian Gornick (12:15) and Wes Rypien (16:35). The goal from Gornick also brought stuffed animals and Teddy Bears flying onto the ice as part of the annual Teddy Bear Toss, with all proceeds benefiting the Children's Medical Center of Dayton. Then, Long Beach tied the game, 2-2, when Villenueve scored a powerplay goal at 17:33.

The teams exchanged goals in the second period with Matt Herneisen giving Dayton a 3-2 lead at 3:28, but Ash Goldie tied the game, 3-3, at 12:30 of the second.

The Ice Dogs scored three times in the third period, and doubled-up the Bombers by a final score of 6-3. Shots were tied, 34-34, and Mike Brown suffered the loss in goal for Dayton.

The Dayton Bombers, proud ‘AA' affiliate of the National Hockey League's Columbus Blue Jackets, are celebrating their 15th Anniversary this season.
