Ice Dogs Remain Perfect Against Victoria

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (8-7-2) won their second game in a row Sunday night, defeating the Victoria Salmon Kings (6-11-1) to gain sole possession of second place in the Pacific Division. The win extended the Ice Dogs' all-time record versus Victoria to 11-0-0, dating back to last season.

Long Beach got on the board first with a shorthanded goal by Kevin Ulanski, his second of the season at 9:57 of the first period. Just 4:28 later Mike Woodford gave the Ice Dogs a 2-0 lead, with help from David Walker and Jimmy Bonneau. KC Timmons of the Salmon Kings then answered back with a shorthanded goal at 15:53 with help from Seth Leonard and Dustan Heintz.

In the second, the Ice Dogs extended their lead to 3-1 when Kevin Ulanski scored his second goal of the game at 5:34, from Cory Urquhart and Justin Aikins. 1:05 later Ash Goldie scored his team leading 9th goal of the season from Chris Kenady and Christian Larrivee. The Salmon Kings closed out the scoring in the second period with a goal by Simon Manos from Lanny Gare at 13:20. It was their second shorthanded goal of the game.

Steeve Villeneuve put the Ice Dogs up 5-2 just 3:17 into the third period with a power play goal from Cory Urquhart and Christian Larrivee. Then Victoria made it 5-3 at 9:32 with a goal by Jade Galbraith, from Steve Lindgren and Lanny Gare, before Larrivee sealed the win with his third point of the night on an unassisted goal at 15:22.

Olivier Michaud started the game for Long Beach making five saves in the first period before being pulled because of an undisclosed injury. Greg Hewitt finished the job and earned the win making 18 saves over two periods. David Currie took the loss for Victoria with 26 saves. The Ice Dogs finished 1-5 on the power play while stopping all five chances by the Salmon Kings.

The Ice Dogs remain home for their next game on Friday, when they take on the Alaska Aces in the first match-up of the season between the two teams. It will be the first time they have faced each other since Alaska eliminated the Ice Dogs in the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs last April.
