Ice Dogs Bite

Victoria Salmon Kings News Release


Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings were back in Southern California on Sunday evening to play the Long Beach Ice Dogs. The Ice Dogs defeated Victoria, 6-3.

Three of the six goals in the first 40 minutes of play, were scored shorthanded. The Ice Dogs opened the scoring half way through the first period when Forward Kevin Ulanski recorded his second goal of the season, and first while killing a penalty.

Four minutes later Long Beach stretched their lead. Forward Mike Woodford, got his second goal of the year, when he put the puck past Salmon Kings Goaltender David Currie at 14:25. The Salmon Kings came right back though with a shorthanded marker of their own. Forward KC Timmons netted his third goal of the season from Dustan Heintz and Seth Leonard, to send the teams to the first intermission with the Ice Dogs leading 2-1.

Ulanski opened the middle frame with his second goal of the night at 5:34. Ulanski's marker was followed 1:05 later, by Ash Goldie's ninth goal of the season, and Long Beach jumped out the 4-1 lead.

Defenseman Simon Mangos cut the Ice Dogs lead in half at 13:20. Mangos goal was the Salmon Kings second shorthanded of the night, to put Victoria two back.

The Ice Dogs jumped out to a 5-2 lead 3:17 into the third period, but the Salmon Kings came back with their third goal of the game, when Forward Jade Galbraith notched his fourth of the season. With the score 5-3, Ice Dogs leading points scorer Christian Larrivee scored his eighth goal, to close the score sheet at 6-3, in favour of Long Beach.

The Salmon Kings finished 0-5 on the powerplay, with two shorthanded goals, while the Ice Dogs scored once on their five opportunities with the man advantage, and also netted a shorthanded goal. Long Beach Goaltender Greg Hewitt recorded his seventh win of the season, while Salmon Kings Netminder David Currie is charged the loss.

The Salmon Kings will finish their five game road trip in Phoenix, Arizona on Tuesday evening against the Roadrunners. Victoria will then return home to host the Utah Grizzlies for the first of a three game series on Friday December 2nd. The weekend festivities will begin on Friday with the Stanley Cup making its first appearance at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. The first annual Teddy Bear Toss will take place on Sunday afternoon, followed by the KidSport Post-Game Skate with the Salmon Kings.
