Ice Dogs Reach Affiliation Agreement With Montreal Canadiens
August 3, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. â Ice Dogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Malcolm Cameron, announced today that Long Beach has reached an agreement with the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League and Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League to be their ECHL affiliate.
Last season the Ice Dogs received left wing Jerome Marois from the Canadiens. Marois finished 4th on the team in scoring with 36 points despite only playing in 50 games. In addition to Long Beach receiving prospects, the agreement will also give some Ice Dogs players the opportunity to compete at the AHL level with Hamilton during their training camp.
"This is a great day for the Long Beach Ice Dogs organization", said Cameron. "We now have an opportunity to develop hockey players for the most winning franchise in NHL history and are very excited about the relationship."
"We're looking forward to having a working relationship with the Long Beach Ice Dogs", said Andre Savard, Assistant General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens. "This affiliation will be important for the development of some of our younger players who we hope to have playing with us in the future."
The Montreal Canadiens are the oldest and most storied franchise in the NHL. Their 24 Stanley Cups rank only 2nd in the four major sports to baseball's New York Yankees who have won the World Series 26 times. Hockey greats like Maurice "Rocket" Richard, Jean Beliveau, Guy Lafleur, and Patrick Roy are just a few of the names that are synonymous with Canadiens hockey. Last season Montreal left wing, Michael Ryder, was a finalist for the Calder Trophy, awarded to the NHL rookie of the year. He finished first in scoring among all NHL rookies with 63 points, but began his professional career playing in 25 games with Tallahassee and Mississippi of the ECHL between 2000-2002.
Season tickets for the 2004-2005 season are on sale now in all price ranges. Fans who pay in full by September 1st will receive an exclusive season ticket holder jersey. The Ice Dogs are also guaranteeing the playoffs or season ticket holders will receive a $50 rebate on each seat purchased. Call (562) ICE-DOGS or visit www.icedogs.com for more information.
