Condors Pick Up Winger From Alaska

August 3, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, CA– The Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL have executed a trade with fellow West Division foes, the Alaska Aces. Bakersfield had sent D Tom Reimann to the Aces in exchange for the rights to RW Bret DeCecco. Neither player is currently under contract.

DeCecco, 24, split last season between two ECHL clubs after being acquired by Alaska near the trade deadline from Peoria. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native played most of his three full seasons in the pro ranks with the Rivermen after turning pro in the 2001-02 season. He finished last season with 13 goals and 30 points, giving him 100 points in his pro career.

Prior to turning pro, DeCecco spent most of his junior hockey career with the Seattle Thunderbirds. He had his best season in 1998-99, when he led his team in both goals (57) and points (100). After that season, the Buffalo Sabres made him the 206th overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft during the 7th round. Three seasons later he turned pro, splitting his rookie season between Roanoke, Greensboro and Peoria.

In Reimann, the Condors send the rights to a player who was acquired late last season but never played. Reimann spent part of his rookie season last year in Greensboro before bolting to Europe.

Stats for DeCecco are listed below. The Condors now have seven players under contract, with David Kudelka, Ryan Gillis, Ryan Coole and Guy Dupuis on the blueline, and Paul Rosebush, Martin Streit, and Todd Alexander at forward. The 2004-05 Bakersfield Condors season opens at home on October 22nd against the expansion Victoria Salmon Kings. Ticket packages are on sale now for as low as $48. Contact the BSE office at 324-PUCK (7825) for more information.
