Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release

BILOXI, Miss. – Mississippi Sea Wolves general manager and coach Bob Woods announced today the signing of goaltender Randy Hevey (HEE-vee).

Hevey, 23, becomes the first goaltender to sign with the Sea Wolves for 2004-05. The 6-foot and 185-pound Hevey backstopped the Jacksonville Barracudas to the World Hockey Association 2 Championship last season, leading the league with a perfect 4-0 record during the playoffs including a 31-save performance in the clinching game. Hevey also compiled a 2.66 goals against average and .924 save percentage during the championship playoff run. In the regular season, Hevey led the WHA2 in three major categories, posting a 2.78 goals against average, .918 save percentage and 25 victories to finish with an overall record of 25-9-1.

"I'm very excited about the opportunity to move up a level," said Hevey. "Last year gave me confidence in the professional ranks. I was fortunate to play in a lot of games last season and I hope to contribute to the Sea Wolves anyway I can this year."

"We heard that Randy was the class of his league last year and he didn't belong there," said Woods. "We feel strongly that he can play at this level and be effective. I like that he's young, only 23 years of age. Sea Wolves director of player development Chuck Thuss (a former professional goaltender) will work with Hevey to help make it an easier transition for him into the ECHL."

Hevey is the seventh player to sign a Mississippi contract for the upcoming season, joining defensemen Milt Mastad and Austin Miller, along with forwards Louis Dumont, Anthony Battaglia, Lucas Drake and Nicolas Corbeil.

The Sea Wolves drop the puck on their ninth ECHL season beginning October 22 at home against the Louisiana IceGators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
