August 3, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have re-signed defenseman Rick Emmett for the 2004-2005 season.
"Emmer is a solid, stay at home defenseman," said Gladiators Head Coach Jeff Pyle. "He a great character guy who understands our systems and is a great fit with our organization."
The nine year veteran ranked first among Gladiators defensemen with 7 power play goals last season. In his first year with the Gladiators, Emmett contributed 12 goals and 14 assists during the regular season. Emmett has posted at least 20 points in each of his nine professional seasons.
"It was a no brain-er to be able to play for Jeff again," said Emmett. "With the success of last year, I'm happy to get the opportunity to come back for another season."
The Etobicoke, Ontario native recorded 5 goals, all on the power play, and 1 assist for 6 points in 13 playoff games while helping the Gladiators to the ECHL's Central Division Championship.
"This season should be exciting," said Emmett, "because of all the success we had last year in the playoffs. It's great motivation for the new guys as well as all of the guys who are returning."
Emmett becomes the third returning player from last season's Central Division Championship team joining Wes Fox and Kris Goodjohn. In addition, the Gladiators have also signed rookies Rob Fried and Jeff Campbell for the upcoming season.
