Charlotte Checkers News Release

Charlotte, NC – Tuesday, August 3, 2004: The Charlotte Checkers announce today the signing of left wing Dusty Jamieson for the 2004-05 season. The announcement is made by Checkers Head Coach & General Manager Derek Wilkinson. The total number of Checkers players signed for the 2004-05 season is now nine with the agreements earlier this summer with defensemen Dan Preston, Clay Plume, Brett Petersen, Tyler Lawson, and Kenton Smith, and forwards Allan Egeland, Justin Dziama, Cody Loughlean.

Jamieson returns to the Checkers for a third season after being one of the top offensive threats for the club the past two seasons. Dusty came to the Checkers in October of 2002 after attending the Hartford Wolf Pack training camp. In his rookie season Jamieson racked up 45 points in 50 games including 27 goals and 18 assists and 23 penalty minutes. Dusty tied Kevin Caulfield for the goal-scoring lead in 2002-03 with the 27 lamp lighters.

Last season Jamieson lead the Checkers in goals scored with 24 while also tying Allan Egeland as Charlotte's leading scorer with 46 points. Under an AHL contract with Hartford last season, Dusty also manages six games with the Wolf Pack.

Jamieson was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the 5th round, (136th overall) in the 1999 National Hockey League Entry Draft He played five seasons of junior hockey with the Guelph Storm and Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League. Jamieson had a spectacular final season of junior with Sarnia with 97 points on 44 goal and 53 assists. Dusty also won Most Valuable Player (Tie), Most Sportsmanlike Player, and Most Popular Player awards for the Sarnia Sting in 2001-02, his final season of junior hockey.

Wilkinson commented on Jamieson's return to the Checkers for the 2004-05 season. "We're adding an ECHL All Star from last season who has proven he can score at this level. Dusty brings speed and excitement to the Checkers and we'll be counting on him to be one of our leading scorers this coming season."

Jamieson remarked on his return to the Checkers for a third season. "If things don't work out for me to play in the American Hockey League then Charlotte is the only place I want to be in the ECHL. Coach Wilkinson has been my assistant coach and head coach the past two seasons and I think he's done a terrific job. Also, I want to help the Checkers get back to the playoffs. That's very important to me"
