Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (30-19-8) seemed ready to show the Stockton Thunder (12-34-11) that they were in a different class, but lost a dominating 3-0 lead to eventually fall in a shootout, 5-4. The Ice Dogs fell to 1-2-3 over their last six games after going 15-2-1 in their previous 18.

Marco Rosa got the scoring started at 18:45 of the first period with an assist to Steeve Villeneuve. Sean McAslan would make it 2-0 with a power play goal from Christian Larrivee and Ash Goldie at 3:48 of the second. Then less than four minutes later, Goldie gave Long Beach a 3-0 lead with assists to Lucas Lawson and Michael Lambert.

At 10:25 of the second period, Stockton began their comeback with a goal by Ned Habern from Joel Irwin and Maris Ziedins. Then at 14:36, the Thunder made it 3-2 with a goal by Geno Parrish from Kevin Gardner and Nathan Martz on the power play. Just over three minutes later they tied the score with a power play goal by Joel Irwin from Mike Lalonde and Jeff Lang.

At 10:02 of the third, the Ice Dogs got the lead back with a one-time goal by Goldie from Derick Martin and Marco Rosa. However, with just 4:05 to go in the game, the Thunder again tied the score, this time with a fluke bounce by Ziedins from Irwin. The game remained tied at the end of the third, and was still deadlocked at 4-4 after a five minute sudden death overtime. In the shootout, the Thunder scored on their first three shots and stopped all three of Long Beach's to steal the win.

Greg Hewitt took the overtime loss for Long Beach, making 34 saves on the night, while Jeff Weber earned the win with 39 saves for Stockton. The Ice Dogs finished 1-4 on the power play while the Thunder went 2-5.

The Ice Dogs will remain home for their next game tomorrow night versus the San Diego Gulls at 7:00 pm. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a limited edition commemorative puck. For more information, call (562) ICE-DOGS for visit www.icedogs.com.
