
Ice Bears Fall in Overtime to Huntsville

Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - Knoxville Ice Bears arrived in town at 5:38 am this morning after defeating the Fayetteville FireAntz. A crowd of 4,183 fans came out in their camo and beards for Puck Dynasty night to see a thrilling ending, but ultimately Huntsville skated away with a 3-2 win.
Ben Schoeneberger was given a 2 minute penalty for cross checking at 4:51 mark into the first, leaving Huntsville on a power play. The Ice Bears killed the penalty, and the teams remained tied at zero. Huntsville's Scott Harff was first to find the back of the net with a shot past Knoxville's goaltender Bryan Hince at the 12 minute mark.
Huntsville extended their lead with just 2:21 left in the first period giving them a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.
The Ice Bears had three power plays, and Huntsville received two, in the second period. Despite the man-advantage opportunities, neither team was able to find the back of the net. The teams entered the final period with Huntsville leading 2-0.
The Ice Bears hit the ice in the final period determined to accomplish a comeback. Just 1:01 into the period newly signed Ice Bear Corey Fulton dropped his gloves against Sam Cannata for the only fight of the game.
Knoxville received a power play when Huntsville's Stuart Stefan was sent to the box. Cannata followed just over a minute later giving the Ice Bears a 5-on-3 advantage. Ben Power ripped a bullet pass through a defender and the crease, Francis Drolet buried the puck on the glove-side corner. Jeremy Klaver received the second assist on the Ice Bears first goal of the game.
With 3:35 minutes left in the game, Eric Satim tipped the puck in off a bounce to tie the game at 2. Mark Van Vliet and Drolet were credited with the assist. Regulation play ended with the teams tied, and the game moved into SPHL 5 minute, 3-on-3 overtime.
The Ice Bears had opportunities, but with 6.8 seconds left in OT, Huntsville got the puck past the posts to win the game.
The Ice Bears will be back in the Civic Coliseum on Thursday, January 23, to rematch the Havoc! It will be another $1,000 Thursday. It will also be College Night in the Coliseum. All students with a valid college ID get their tickets for $9, and there will be student drink specials.
