Louisiana IceGators News Release
Southaven, Miss.--A sluggish start from the Louisiana IceGators doomed their first game following a one-week hiatus.
The IceGators gave up the first two goals of the game en route to a 3-2 loss to the Mississippi RiverKings. Phil Bronner scored twice in the second period, including the eventual game-winner.
The two teams will travel to Lafayette for a Saturday rematch in the Cajundome. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
"I thought we did some good things tonight, but we lost the game in the first period," said IceGators head coach Kevin Kaminski. "We weren't ready. We came out flat, and, once again, we had to be down by two goals before the urgency and desperation kicked in.
"It's insanity. We're doing the same things over and over again and getting the same result."
Devin Mantha scored the 9:18 mark of the first period to give the RiverKings an early 1-0.
Brommer scored his first goal of the night two minutes into the second period off assists from Mike Hayward and Leo Thomas.
The IceGators made the score 2-1 following a Tyler Lyon goal at the 10:05 mark of the frame.
Brommer regained the two-goal lead for Mississippi when he went top shelf at the 15:52 mark of the period.
Shawn McNeil recorded a power play goal with 8:55 remaining in regulation to make it a one-goal game.
Kaminski says he wants to see his players turn up their intensity level before they allow the season to slip away.
"Our preparation, mental toughness, and care factor have to get to another level," Kaminski said. "We have the same brain cramps constantly and keep turning the puck over. We can say all the right things, but if we aren't going to do it on the ice, then we'll keep finding ways to lose.
